Location & Transportation
When arriving via cruise, you’ll most likely dock in Giardini Naxos. Ships anchor in Giardini Bay and use tenders to bring passengers to port – the journey from the ship to Taormina takes about 20 minutes. Giardini Naxos itself is a vibrant seaside spot, where beautiful beaches and a wide range of water sports, including scuba diving and snorkeling trips, await you. Just off the dock, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars, gelaterias, and cafés perfect for a relaxed bite or a quick gelato.
If you’re headed up to Taormina, the town is perched on a hill to the north. You can walk up if you’re feeling energetic, but there’s also an affordable bus service (€1, €2.50 return) from the Recanati bus station for those who prefer not to climb many stairs. Another bus will even take you further up the hill to the quaint village of Castelmola – a visit well worth the extra few minutes. For a quicker transfer, taxis are available at the dock. They typically charge around €30 each way (for up to six people); just be sure to agree on the fare before your journey begins.
The Taormina–Giardini Train Station is conveniently located on the sea front, about a mile south of the town center, serving both Taormina and Giardini Naxos.
