Location & Transportation
You will be docked at the Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach Terminal. In February 2022, a new jetty was built that makes the disembarkation process much quicker. The island itself stretches 1.5 miles along a beautiful natural shoreline, featuring hundreds of palm trees, shaded cabanas, and over 2,000 sunbeds set across 387,500 square feet of pristine beach.
Occasionally, strong winds may cause a cancellation of port calls—so it’s wise to check with your cruise line before arrival if conditions might affect your visit.
Sightseeing
Sir Bani Yas Island is a treasure trove of natural beauty and wildlife. About half of the island is dedicated to the Arabian Wildlife Park, where over 13,000 animals native to the Arabian Peninsula roam freely. Here, you can see rare creatures such as the endangered Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelle, Mountain Gazelle, as well as free-roaming predators like the Sudan cheetah and striped hyena.
The island’s beach is perfectly designed for families and relaxation. You’ll find complimentary parasols, wooden sun loungers, and freshwater showers at various spots. One side features a playful children’s area and an inflatable aqua park with floating mats—ideal for families—while a quieter, more secluded section offers spa services and cabanas for those looking to unwind. The lush mangrove lagoon nearby is a wonderful spot for kayaking or paddle-boarding, with chances to spot nesting ospreys and flamingos up close.
Tours & Excursions
If you love adventure, the game drive tours on Sir Bani Yas are a must. The jeep safari is especially popular, offering a wonderful way to explore the island’s diverse terrain and encounter the wildlife. Be aware that these excursions are arranged only on board the cruise ship and tend to fill up fast, so it’s best to secure your spot early.
Other excursions on the island generally receive mixed reviews, so I recommend focusing on the jeep safari for a truly memorable experience.
Dining
One of the highlights of Sir Bani Yas is the all-inclusive dining experience. As you wander the beach or relax by the water, you’ll find several barbecue stations serving delicious local fare at no extra charge. There are also six beach bars where you can enjoy refreshing drinks (with your onboard drink package honored on the island) while soaking in the stunning views and tranquil atmosphere.
Culture & Local Events
While Sir Bani Yas is famous for its natural attractions, it also offers a glimpse into the local Emirati culture. Here are a few points to keep in mind:
- Local etiquette: Arabic is the main language, but English is widely spoken in the tourism sector. Respect for local customs and traditions goes a long way.
- Currency & Payments: The local currency is the AED. Credit cards are generally accepted throughout the island, though it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller vendors.
- Hours & Holidays: Most facilities on the island, including resorts and beach services, operate with flexible hours. In the UAE, many establishments adjust their hours on Fridays in observance of religious practices.
- Events & Festivals: While Sir Bani Yas itself is focused on nature and relaxation, the nearby Abu Dhabi region hosts exciting events throughout the year, such as cultural festivals and outdoor concerts. If you have extra time or plan another visit, be sure to check out local listings for current happenings.
Safety is excellent on the island, with a low crime rate and helpful staff at all resorts ensuring you have a comfortable experience.
