Location & Transportation
Sete port has several landing spots to accommodate different vessels:
- Quai d’Alger: Welcomes ships with a maximum length of 200 m and a draft of 7.40 m. Guests are greeted at a bright cruise terminal equipped with a tourist information office, a shop, and a currency exchange. This terminal is just a 5–10 minute walk from the city center. There’s also parking for up to 12 tour coaches and a taxi stand nearby.
- Pier “P2”: Located inside the port with easy highway access, it can accommodate vessels up to 225 m LOA (with arrangements available for larger vessels over 240 m) and a draft of 10 m.
- Dolphin Berth “Epi Dellon”: A newer facility built for larger ships (240–350 m LOA) sheltered by the breakwater. Note that accessing the downtown cruise terminal requires a 10-minute tender ride.
For your convenience, there’s a free shuttle service to the main gate, and local town bus line 3 stops at Passage le Dauphin to take you to the Mont Saint Clair Viewing Point. Best of all, you can easily walk from any of these piers to the main canal, town center, and covered market.

Meander through its narrow streets, browse local boutiques and cafes, and be sure to try some classic cassoulet. (A guided tour is recommended during peak season due to heavy traffic and limited parking.)
Shopping
Sete features a range of local shops and boutiques where you can pick up unique souvenirs and artisanal goods. I love exploring small specialty stores in the town center where you might find local crafts, gourmet food items, and maritime-themed treasures.

Dining in Sete is a real treat—especially for seafood lovers. The local gastronomy is a delightful blend of southern French cuisine and Italian influences brought by migrants. Here are a few tips:
- Savor fresh seafood dishes prepared with local catch, and don’t miss out on regional specialties.
- Enjoy a meal at one of the many sidewalk cafés along Quai Maximin Licciardi, where locals gather for a relaxed dining experience.
- Visit the covered market for local flavors and a quick bite.
Culture & Local Events
In Sete, the local lifestyle and events give you a genuine taste of southern French culture:
- Local Customs & Hours: Most shops, museums, and information services open around 8 or 9 am. Smaller shops may close for lunch between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm, while larger outlets typically remain open until about 6:30 or 7:30 pm from Monday to Saturday. Many bakeries and food shops also open on Sunday mornings.
- Currency & Payment Tips: The local currency is the Euro. Although most places accept credit cards, carrying a bit of cash is always handy, especially with smaller vendors.
- Communication & Safety: Communication is straightforward with signage mostly in French. In any emergency, dial 112.
- Local Events: During the summer months, you might catch spirited local water jousting tournaments along the canals. Sete also hosts seasonal food and wine festivals celebrating its rich culinary heritage. These events provide a lively atmosphere and are a wonderful way to mingle with locals and experience authentic regional traditions.
