Location & Transportation
Margaret River’s cruise experience begins when your tender docks at the historic Busselton Jetty, one of the longest wooden jetties in the world. The jetty provides a picturesque introduction to the region as you disembark and start your day of adventure. Busselton, with its safe anchorage in the north-facing Geographe Bay, is a welcoming gateway that sets the stage for exploring nearby Margaret River.
From Busselton, Margaret River is roughly 50 kilometers to the south—a scenic 40- to 50-minute drive. Taxis and local shuttle services are available, and I loved the drive along Bussell Highway, where rolling vineyards and stunning coastal views create a true taste of the region.

Culture & Local Events
Australia uses the Australian Dollar (AUD), and while most shops, restaurants, and wineries accept major credit cards, it’s wise to carry a little cash for local markets or smaller vendors. English is the main language, and you’ll notice the friendly, laid-back nature of the locals at every turn.
Margaret River’s cultural scene is vibrant and seasonal:
- The region often hosts wine festivals, gourmet escapes, art fairs, and local markets that celebrate its natural bounty and creative traditions.
- Typical business hours see shops and eateries open from mid-morning until early evening, with many dining spots staying open later to cater to the evening crowd.
- Always keep an eye on local advice when heading into nature—the rugged beauty of the outdoors calls for a respectful and cautious approach.
