Location & Transportation
Since 2019, Lombok has welcomed cruise passengers to its new terminal in Lembar—no more tendering required! The facility is modern enough to handle a 4,000-capacity cruise liner or two smaller ships at the same time. From here, everything is within reach. The port is conveniently located near the town of Lembar, where you can admire scenic landscapes and vibrant local life on your way to your next adventure.
Local taxis and pre-arranged drivers are readily available. For a day of exploration, you can hire a van or car with driver (around $75 for a full day) to take you around the island, so you can comfortably visit multiple sites without the hassle of navigating on your own.
Sightseeing
Lombok’s natural beauty is the main draw. Whether you’re lounging by a pristine beach or diving into water sport activities like swimming, water-skiing, and boating, there’s something for everyone. I personally love to wander along the shores and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
- Enjoy a leisurely day on one of Lombok’s many quiet, uncrowded beaches.
- Discover vibrant local markets where the aroma of spices and fresh produce fills the air.
Tours & Excursions
There is no shortage of exciting day trips around Lombok. Here’s what I recommend:
- Local Driver Tours: As soon as you step outside the terminal, friendly street sellers offer day tours. Hire a van or car with a driver (about $75 for a day) who can take you to must-see spots. Ask to stop at Senggigi Beach for a refreshing coconut drink and then head to the lively shopping center in Lombok near Kuta. Just remember not to pay until the driver has safely returned you to the port.
- Boat Trips: South of the port, you can rent a motorized boat to explore Gili Nanggu Beach. The charming bungalows built on stilts give you a glimpse into the island lifestyle.
- Resort Island Visit: If you fancy snorkeling or simply relaxing on white sands, consider a 20-minute outrigger boat ride to the resort island of Gili Nanggu. Here, vibrant coral formations and colorful fish make for excellent underwater adventures.
- Island Hopping: Don’t miss the chance to explore the famous Gili Islands – Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. They’re renowned for their breathtaking beaches, superb snorkeling, and scuba diving opportunities.
- Hiking Adventure: For the more active traveler, a visit to Gunung Rinjani is a must. This volcanic mountain offers trails with majestic views of the island, cozy villages like Sapit, and even hot springs nestled in a vast, ancient crater.
