Location & Transportation
On July 16, 2024, the Philippine government launched the cruise visa waiver, making it easier for visa-required travelers to explore our beautiful islands. Your ship will tender you to Quezon Island, where you can spend a whole day beachcombing, picnicking, and island hopping. I love how laid-back the vibe is here—perfect for a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
For those wishing to stay longer, while Hundred Islands is best known as a day-trip paradise, there are charming lodging options in nearby towns like Alaminos City.
Nearest Airport
The nearest major airport is Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, about a 4-hour drive from Hundred Islands. Alternatively, Clark International Airport offers another option, though both require a scenic road trip to reach our little slice of paradise.
Sightseeing
Hundred Islands is a wonder to explore. The 124 islands, remnants of an ancient coral reef, form a natural maze that’s an absolute delight to navigate by boat. I highly recommend taking some time to soak in the natural beauty with activities like:
- Strolling along the pristine beaches and enjoying a refreshing swim.
- Snorkeling among colorful marine life in clear, shallow waters.
- Observing local wildlife such as crab-eating macaques, civets, dolphins, and even the occasional dugong or sea turtle.
Tours & Excursions
If you’re keen to explore every nook and cranny, consider joining an island-hopping tour. I’ve found that renting a small boat or joining a guided tour is the best way to access hidden coves and secluded snorkeling spots. Many tours also include stops at quieter beaches where you can kick back with a picnic and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Shopping
While the focus here is on natural beauty rather than retail therapy, you can still find a few charming souvenir shops on Quezon Island selling local crafts and keepsakes. For a wider variety of shopping options, a short trip to nearby towns will introduce you to local markets with authentic Filipino handmade items.
Dining
Dining near Hundred Islands is all about fresh, local flavors. On Quezon Island, simple beachfront eateries serve up delicious freshly grilled seafood, tropical fruits, and other Filipino favorites. If you decide to venture out to nearby towns, you’ll discover even more local culinary delights that capture the warmth and hospitality of the Philippines.
Culture & Local Events
Hundred Islands exudes the friendly charm of the Philippines, and here are a few cultural highlights and practical tips to enhance your visit:
- • Local Currency & Payments: The Philippine peso (PHP) is used here. While major credit cards are accepted in bigger cities, it’s wise to carry some cash for smaller vendors when you’re island hopping.
- • Communication: Most Filipinos speak English very well, so don’t hesitate to ask locals for tips or directions.
- • Business Hours & Holidays: Many local services operate from about 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays, with some variation during weekends and holidays.
- • Local Events: Although Hundred Islands is a peaceful natural retreat, nearby towns often host vibrant festivals featuring live music, street food, and cultural performances. Check local event listings to see if any festivals coincide with your visit.
- • A Personal Tip: Immerse yourself in the genuine Filipino hospitality. Ask around for the best spots to watch the sunrise or uncover that secret, quiet beach where you can truly relax.
Safety & Awareness
- Keep a close eye on your belongings, especially while moving between islands.
- Always follow local guidelines when swimming or snorkeling.
- In case of emergency, don’t hesitate to dial 911.
