Location & Transportation
Mid-size and smaller ships can navigate the twisting Saigon River and dock just a short distance from downtown. When you step off the ship, you’ll find trishaws and taxis waiting outside the port gate.
Saigon’s port in the center of town uses three main piers. Your ship may dock at one of these until 24 hours before arrival:
- Nha Rong Port – #3, 5 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, District 4
- Tan Thuan II Port – #243 Bui Van Ba Street, Tan Thuan Dong Ward, District 7
- Lotus Port – #1A Nguyen Van Quy Street, Phu Thuan Ward, District 7
For larger cruise ships, docking takes place at Phu My—a commercial port on the South China Sea near Vung Tau (about 80 miles or a 1.5-hour drive from the city). If your ship docks at Phu My, you’ll need to use the port shuttle or arrange a taxi transfer (be sure to confirm the price and return trip details in advance).
Nearest Airport
Tan Son Nhat International Airport is conveniently located just 6–7 km from downtown Ho Chi Minh City. A taxi or ride-share will get you there in around 20–30 minutes, although be prepared for busy city traffic.
Nearby Lodging
There are plenty of hotels in central Ho Chi Minh City—especially around District 1—making it easy to find a comfortable stay a short trip from the port.

Safety & Awareness
- Always remain aware of your surroundings; the busy streets and bustling markets are exciting but can be crowded.
- While the local dong (VND) is the primary currency, U.S. dollars are widely accepted for many transactions—just be mindful of the exchange rate (around 16,000 dong to US$1) and enjoy the art of bargaining.
- Make sure to check local business hours: most shops open in the morning and stay open until around 2100–2200. Note that during Tết, many establishments shut for several days.
- It’s always wise to be cautious with your belongings in crowded areas.
