The cruise terminal for Great Exuma is typically located in Georgetown, the main town on the island. Most cruise passengers are tendered from the ship to shore, and once you’re in Georgetown, you’ll easily find taxis and local mini-buses to help you explore the island. For those arriving by air, Exuma International Airport is just a short drive from the town. The relaxed island vibe means transportation is straightforward and stress-free.
Nearest Airport
Exuma International Airport serves the island and is located only a few miles from Georgetown. It mainly handles domestic and charter flights, making it convenient if you’re transitioning from air travel to a cruise.

In Georgetown, you’ll find a few charming shops and local markets where you can pick up handmade crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs. It’s a great place to find authentic Bahamian keepsakes and chat with friendly vendors for a taste of local life.
Dining
Great Exuma offers a variety of dining options ranging from casual beachside cafés to more refined restaurants. I highly recommend trying local seafood dishes—fresh conch salad and grilled lobster are local favorites. Many eateries also serve Bahamian specialties that blend island flavors with a Caribbean twist, perfect for rounding out your day on the island.

Currency, Communication & Hours
- The official currency is the Bahamian Dollar (BSD), but U.S. dollars are widely accepted, making transactions hassle-free.
- English is the official language, so communication is easy for most visitors.
- Most local shops and restaurants in Georgetown are open from around 9 am to 6 pm, with many dining spots extending hours into the evening. It’s always a good idea to check locally for any changes during holidays or special events.
Safety & Awareness
- As with any tropical destination, stay hydrated and use sun protection.
